PLASTIC OIL.......
Fossil fuels have been the primary source of energy in the form of crude oil. For decades, petroleum products have been used to power cities, cars, machinery and much more the world over. However, environmental awareness, has highlighted negative environmental impacts, particularly, climate change. This has led to the exploration of renewable energy sources and advancement in clean energy technologies for ,solar, wind, and hydro power.
Bio-fuels, are being championed as more ecofriendly alternatives to petroleum. But,there have been challenges, in area of demand and supply. There has also been debate about food shortage, versus energy production.
In the past, energy from waste, has been criticized because of the use of heat, and its resulting fumes, which could be harmful. It appears that this issue may have been addressed. A Japanese inventor, Akinori Ito, invented a household appliance, that can convert plastic waste to oil, using a carbon negative system. The machine, heats the plastic with electricity, then traps the vapors. When the vapor cools, it condenses into crude oil.For example, it can convert 2lbs of plastic into a quart of oil, using just 1 kilowatt of power. It processes polyethylene, polystyrene and polypropylene. Although the appliance cannot convert PET bottles, it is still quite impressive, don't you think? It may interest you to know that plastic bags, are created from crude oil, natural gas or other petrochemical derivatives.
