THE ART OF EVAPORATIVE COOLING.......

Nothing like a cool blast of air, or  a cold drink, on a hot day. However, most appliances used in "keeping cool" are "power hungry".  This leads to the question? How did people stay cool before Michael Faraday, invented a way for electricity to become viable for use in technology?

  • Ancient Egypt:According to archaeologists, there are Ancient Egyptian fresco painting of slaves fanning large porous clay pots. This is the first record of the use of evaporative cooling.
  • Roman Empire:Affluent Romans circulated water from the aqueducts through the walls of their homes to maintain a cooler temperature.
  • Medieval Persia: The first man made structures were constructed in the form of towers. These towers trapped wind, and funneled it past water at the base and into a building. Nowadays. these coolers have been modified into evaporative coolers(Coolere Âbi) and  are widely used in Iran.
  • Renaissance Era: Leonardo DaVinci, was credited with being the inventor of an early mechanical air cooler. A water wheel that guided cool air into a room.
  • After 1831:
  • In early 1900's America: Air washers were invented. The air washers passed air through water spray, which cleaned and cooled the air in textile mills and factories in New England and the Southern coastline.
  • 1995: Mohammed Bah Abba invented the Zeer pot. Utilizing evaporative cooling to preserve vegetables and fresh produce.
It has been 182years since Jacob Perkins, built the first refrigerating machine, and  114 years, since  Willis Haviland Carrier invented electrical air conditioning. Evaporative  cooling, is still being used, without an external energy source, and as an environmentally responsible cooling system.
Did you know, evaporative cooling is used to reduce the temperature in silkworm rearing houses?

SO NOW YOU  KNOW!!!!
